If you are traveling Japan in spring (March, April, May), what can you enjoy? On this page, I would like to introduce what kind of things are popular in the spring for travelling in Japan. In spring, you can watch a lot of flowers such as cherry blossoms in Japan. The Japanese archipelago is very long from north to south, so the times when flowers bloom are quite different around the country. I recommend that you check flower forecasts to find out where the flowers are blooming when you travel.

For the trip to Japan in the spring, I would like to recommend cherry blossoms first.

Japan loves cherry blossoms. We plant a lot of cherry blossom trees, and when cherry blossoms bloom, we all enjoy watching the flowers. The act of viewing cherry blossoms is called “Hanami” in Japan. The word “Hanami” has come to be known to a large extent in countries other than Japan.

In Japan, there are parks and riverbeds where you can enjoy “Hanami” in any area. In these parks, we spread plastic tarps under the cherry trees to sit, eat delicious food and drink alcohol. This scene seems to be very rare to many tourists from foreign countries that come to visit. Of course, you can enjoy viewing cherry blossoms freely in most parks!

Where can you see the cherry blossoms when you came to Japan? Unfortunately, the cherry blossoms bloom for only a few weeks at most. Cherry blossoms are scattered very quickly due to rain and wind.
If you are going to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka etc. Please try to visit Japan from the end of March to the beginning of April. Then you will be able to experience “Hanami”.

If you can visit Japan during this time, when you visit, let’s examine where in Japan cherry blossoms are blooming.

In the southern part of Japan such as Kyushu and Shikoku, cherry blossoms begin to bloom from late March. Cherry blossoms begin to bloom in Hokkaido from the second half of April. In the northern part of Hokkaido as well as the mountainous region they bloom in the first half of May.

Cherry blossoms in Japan are really beautiful, so please enjoy them in the various areas.

In spring, Japan is generally warm and easy to spend time outside. However, you can still enjoy snowy landscapes in spring. In Japan, there are many mountainous areas, and even in the spring such snow is not easily melted. If you go to a sightseeing spot in one of these mountainous areas, you can experience a freezing cold world outside of winter.

The tourist spot I recommend most is Tateyama in Toyama Prefecture. Here you can see the wall of snow which is almost 20 meters tall from late April to mid-June (depending on the year). This is a terribly heavy snow area and when the snowplow removes the snow on the road a wall of snow will be formed on either side of the road. You can enjoy walking down the road for about 500 meters from this bus section.

Please use this sightseeing information to enjoy various springs in Japan!

Now, let’s plan to make your vacation in Japan the best experience ever!
