If you go to Tokyo in May, you will enjoy a quite comfortable trip. As the graph above shows, in early and mid-May, the days in Tokyo are not too hot or too cold.
When exercising, you may break a sweat. However, it is not as hot as the summer yet. You may be fine wearing short-sleeved shirts during the day. There are many sunny days but a few rainy days throughout. Sometimes it rains continuously for several days.
The number of rainy days will gradually increase at the end of May. Temperatures will also rise and there will be days when you feel hot and humid. Japan will have a rainy season that begins in June with the summer months to follow.

In Japan, the “golden week” of many public holidays will continue until around May 6. There are a large number of Japanese tourists traveling in and out of the country. However, when the Golden Week is over, there will be fewer Japanese tourists in the tourist areas of Tokyo. From the beginning to the middle of May the weather is very comfortable.
