On this page, I will introduce the real story of the Nagasaki region in Kyushu. There are many Christians in the Nagasaki region. From the 17th to the 19th century, they have kept their faith secretly, even if Christianity is forbidden.

In the 16th century, Christianity was brought to Japan.

 

But it was forbidden. Many people were martyred.

 

In the 17th century, believers rebelled in Kyushu.

 

However, it was suppressed by the Tokugawa Shogunate.
About 37,000 people were all killed.

 

Since then, believers secretly kept their beliefs.

 

In the 19th century, the Tokugawa Shogunate ended and a new government was established.
Missionaries from Europe came to Japan again.

 

Missionaries found the believers.

 

The churches were rebuilt.

 

In 2018, the Christian heritage of Nagasaki and Amakusa region was registered as a World Heritage site.

 

 

You can feel this magnificent drama in western Kyushu.
