If you go to Tokyo in May, you will enjoy a quite comfortable trip. As the graph above shows, in early and mid-May, the days in Tokyo are not too hot or too cold.
When exercising, you may break a sweat. However, it is not as hot as the summer yet. You may be fine wearing short-sleeved shirts during the day. There are many sunny days but a few rainy days throughout. Sometimes it rains continuously for several days.
The number of rainy days will gradually increase at the end of May. Temperatures will also rise and there will be days when you feel hot and humid. Japan will have a rainy season that begins in June with the summer months to follow.

In Japan, the “golden week” of many public holidays will continue until around May 6. There are a large number of Japanese tourists traveling in and out of the country. However, when the Golden Week is over, there will be fewer Japanese tourists in the tourist areas of Tokyo. From the beginning to the middle of May the weather is very comfortable. You should be able to enjoy sightseeing with ease.
However, even though the days are warm, the mornings and evenings may feel a bit chilly. Please bring a light jacket.

In mid-May, the weather in Tokyo will be very mild and comfortable. The temperature will not be too cold or hot so you can travel comfortably.
There are many pleasant sunny days and festivals are held throughout Japan. There are several festivals in downtown Tokyo as well, and if you are lucky, you may be able to experience one.

By late May, temperatures in Tokyo will be quite high. As you can see in the table above, the daytime maximum temperature will be over 25 degrees Celsius. The humidity gets a little higher and people begin to feel that the rainy season is approaching.
There may be unexpectedly hot days. Be careful of sunburn and heat stroke.
